I don't know that not being on a spacecraft is all that detrimental. Spacecraft knowledge can be learned and cohesion can be gained. Don't write us off just yet.
Sure. I wouldn't call it optimism, though. I just think a disparate bunch of people with their own sets of skills can be a pretty powerful asset as long as there's some coordination.
