Ah... yeah. It has kind of a sweet scent, right? [ ... ] I wasn't really thinking about it, but now that you mention it, I guess that didn't happen last week, did it? Though maybe that was just because Rosamund-san was already...
[ well. ]
And the first two weeks it wasn't officially being called execution yet.
One of the logs we found... about galactic storms? Mentioned a "sweet smell" with no apparent cause, so I was kind of thinking about that every time I saw it... I thought maybe the pink stuff and the smell were hallucinations caused by CEM waves or whatever.
[ ... ]
But now I'm wondering if, like... maybe I had it backwards.
[ the miasma followed her here but got a makeover... ]
Like maybe it's some kind of chemical that induces hallucinations during the executions, you mean? The simulation room takes care of the setting, but beyond that...
[ he had not actually thought about this in a long time (because my stupid ass forgot) but now he's got a couple of vague potential theories about it, so he'll forgive the guessing game. ]
Hmm... Have you seen it outside of that? And are we still assuming the scent is coming from the mist itself?
When you get accustomed to a scent, you pretty much stop smelling it. So if the scent was from the mist, and it was around us all the time everywhere else, I'm not sure why we'd suddenly smell it at the beginning of the execution when they turn the sim rooms on. I could see the visibility change being linked to the difference in lighting before and after the simulation powers on, though.
And -- I don't know. I could smell it whenever we saw the haze before, so I think the two are connected, but... it's not always the case, so I can't say for sure.
Yeah, I'd be weirded out if I were you too, jeez. Did you check with any of the others from your mission the other day to see if they saw it too? In case something there had some kind of effect that, I don't know, made your eyes more sensitive to it or something?
Huh? Really?? The description didn't say anything about letting you see invisible things or whatever, did it? I thought it just said it was spicy chocolate.
[ so he didn't bother to try to get it because he's pretty neutral on both hot things and chocolate. ]
I've never gotten one of those limited items, though, so...
I think all the limited items are actually really similar! Like, most of them just say stuff like "gives you energy," or "rejuvenates" or whatever. But it's weird that for something so rare and limited, there's nothing really concrete in the ad, and no obvious variety in effects, you know?
It sounds like they get around? Some of the locals on one of the planets we visited buy from them, too... But whenever we meet, they're all business, so I haven't been able to learn anything directly...
Should probably look into that some more too. If the stuff they're selling inexplicably has effects like this, there's a good chance they know at least something about what's really going on, right? Especially if they've been tagging along with this ship since before we got here...
[ and being outside of the crew, their memory is probably a lot more reliable. ]
[ me looking over at scrap's page and immediately getting jumpscared by the gun ]
Hey, yeah! That's a really good point!
And if they're collecting stuff this ship leaves behind, maybe they've seen things that doesn't have any monetary value, but might actually contain some important clues?
At this point, the situation's gotten pretty desperate, so we shouldn't let them slip away as usual! We should shake them down and get some answers, even if it means bribing or threatening them!

Do you remember seeing a pink haze on Sundays sometimes? Like when we first entered the sim room in the morning?
It was there the day Sheba and Shouxue died... and when Dion died... and today, with Gregor... but it wasn't there last week, or the first few weeks.

[ but she might as well say what she's thinking. ]
I was thinking that... the pink stuff isn't a hallucination. And it's not just there during executions.
It's here, all over the place, and we just don't see it normally.

[ looks... around... ]
I don't... see it...
This is a new thing?

Like, if it was like this before, I think someone else would have noticed by now...
I just thought it was really weird that no one else was saying anything!?

I don't think it's that...
I think it's because of Scrap's special thing? The rock candy.
But lots of people must have used his stuff before, and not seen pink stuff everywhere? So I don't know why it's different now.

Yeah, exactly! I wonder if we could get them to talk to us down on the planet or something.
